I'm not sure I understand the people who (a) don't believe this is coming soon, or (b) don't believe it's coming at all because "people won't use it - it's too small." That's garbage.
Not everything Apple releases has to be an "earth shattering" revolution. Some stuff can just have a niche market and be better than what's out there. They're in it to make money first and foremost. And frankly, if people could carry an iPod-sized object, with wireless headphones, and that could play widescreen movies on a 4" or so screen (AND, oh by the way, carry their iTunes library to boot), it would be the death of the portable DVD player.
No, that's not a huge market, or a cash cow by any means. Nor is it a revolutionary product. But at the end of the day, it's pretty damned cool which means most of us will buy it (despite our attempts not to), and it's certainly another cha-ching to add to the list for Apple.

As noted above, even with the Apple discount today on .mac, since you pay sales tax you'll be better off purchasing it on Amazon. I saw an even better deal on buy.com, where you can buy .mac for $62.77 if you use Google checkout ($20 off $50 deal). The current Google Checkout deal is a good deal if buy.com has your item in stock. The discount is $20 off $50 or $10 off $30 purchases, and you can use it multiple times, if you checkout your items separately.

As a former BBY employee I can tell you a few things that are flawed.
#1 no former or current Best Buy employee would call themselves BBemployee, BBYEmployee would seem more likely. I know its stupid but it is the culture of Best Buy to shorten it to BBY.
#2 You would have no clue if Best Buy was in trouble. As a simple Blue Shirt or even a Black Shirt you would not have this information passed down to you.
#3 Your rant show that you either hate Best Buy for personal reasons or possibly a former employee who has a huge vendetta against the company.
#4 Your rant does nothing to support this discussion.
#1: Gonna log into Employee Toolkit with my 6-digit number preceded by a letter. Gonna check my Action Center. Gonna run an OMS for delivery and some GSI. Gonna do a lookup in RSS. I doubt it, because I guess I'm not as instantly and intensely skeptical of someone who claims to be a current or former Best Buy employee (imagine that...) considering we're on a tech forum (people nerdy enough to work at Best Buy posting on a tech forum?!?) and Best Buy is the biggest electronics retail chain in the country (I think I see a break in the clouds...).
This would be especially true if person claiming to be a current or former employee knows the term BBY at all. Hell, I'd believe them for my own sake, as I don't want to believe in a world where anyone outside of the Best Buy "family" would ever be concerned with such trivial things.

#4 Again, the "rant" as you call it was an attempt at dispelling the unreasonable idea that Best Buy is really out to get the customer at every turn. The reason why I didn't buy an Ipad yet. I would only browse on Safari and play games. Something that is available on my Macbook Pro.
With regards to this particular ad, should we presume from your comment that you are not an engineer, a doctor, a business person, a teacher, a student, a parent or a child? All these folks love their iPads, and do more with it than browse the Internet or play games...

I think Apple knew what they were doing. I think they may integrate this with Ping (worst thing ever), like 'PersonX likes the same music as you and also likes AdvertY' as some sort of viral marketing.
They will get paid a lot of money by the advertisers using it and the advertisers will get valuable information back like how many people favourited certain ads gaining valuable information about the market and how to create better adverts.
I still think it's a stupid idea, but whatever floats your boat.

Apple is usually slow to update things like Education pricing etc.
The Edu price will go down within a few days. :)
The old edu discount on the 20 inch was $699 (yesterday and this morning), so unless Apple drops the price AGAIN.
The price drops for the 20 and 23 inch are as follows
size � old (edu) -> new (edu)
20" � 799 (699) -> 699 (649)
23" � 1299 (1099) -> 999 (899)
I'm not sure on the 30", but I reckon it followed a similar pattern.

Have you had much experience with doctors? I'm guessing that you haven't because medicine is all about asking intrusive questions.
Doctors can't diagnose a problem unless they are able to ask questions. I'm just absolutely astounded at the amount of paranoia when it comes to gun ownership. If it's such a good thing, why can't a doctor ask about it?
I am really, really stunned that there is such a disconnect from reality when it comes to guns. The NRA has done this country an enormous disservice.
Please explain to me what my guns and my doctor have in common.

Substitute guns for something else, porn, your driving habits, etc...and see if your thinking stays the same.

installing the HD into your macbook pro? i'd like to know how that goes. i've seen some issues with the 1tb drives not fitting just right. (too thick)

Yes I put it in the pro. It fit without any issue. Smooth as the stock drive and ssd installs. So far I'm very happy with it.
It is thicker 12.5 compared to the norm 9.5, but current MBPs can handle it. I can confirm 17-inch, but I did a lot of research before buying and have read about success with the 15 and 13 inch models too.
Currently letting all my data xfer over.

if i have the money, i can come up with 5 things, right now, to be patented. but you don't care, do you.
point being, it's not hard to get patent... as long as you fulfill those 3 requirement (novelty, non-obviousness, usefulness), and after a few yrs, you will be grant a patent.
the lacks of buttons on a phone could ne novel and non-obvious, but is that really THAT exciting? sure it's great and all, but c'mon, it's not revolutionary.

Nope, it won't happen at all. There is too big of a market for people who write and rely on custom software. I don't disagree that the friendly face of the OS will continue to get dumbed down. The backend, however, will remain just as open and customizable. Go look at any University and you'll find that in the CS dept a huge portion of the professors and their students use Mac OS X. Restrict this market and you drive away future developers. It would be suicidal.

I cant believe how much press Apple is getting. It was never like this before. IE. when the battery recall was on the news, the BBC/ITV were camped outside of Regent street's Apple store talking about the batteries and what went wrong and what not, even though Dell was involved too. Bit harsh I think.
But, it still suprises me about people and their iPods. I was at college the other day and someone had their iPod out. I pulled my first Gen iPod out my pocket and said "Now this is old school. You can only use this with a Mac" and the student said to me "Whats a Mac?"
After explaining that the iPod is made by a company called Apple, which has made PC's since the 70/80s, he then replied... "oooh, those computers are rubbish"
yeah, whatever you say mate...

i dread to see how tonights news splashes all over the tech pages of bbc/itv/sky news etc.. tomorrow morning and how the ignorant masses react.
