Jamaican Reggae Grammy winning super star Mark Myrie aka Buju Banton aka Gargamel was found guilty on three of the four charges brought against him in the United States Middle District Court, Florida Division.
Mr. Myrie was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine, attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offence. He was found not guilty on the weapons posession charge.
Buju Banton faces now up to 15-20 years in prison... His attorneys indicated that if Buju had taken a deal before the start of the trial he would have received a 2-3 years sentence however this was rejected by Banton and his legal team.
Word out is that there are possibilities that there could be an appeal by the defence team... The Jamaican music fraternity is already raising funds for the artist endeavours hereafter
Definetly a sad day in Reggae/Dancehall history...
